When Grosvenor Wotkyns necked down the Savage 250-3000 in 1934, he had prototyped what would become the fastest commercially available cartridge of its day.  For commercial production, Winchester ended up using the 6mm Lee Navy cartridge. The 220 Swift didn’t set the new bar by just a little bit either, it left the next closest competitor behind by a whopping 1400 fps.  Perhaps more unbelievable though, is that it’s still the fastest today, over 80 years later.

This month we decided to put together a build from a couple of very unique pieces that we found.  We started with a like new with box Ruger M77 in .220 Swift with a varmint barrel.  The unique part of this gun isn’t just it’s relatively rare caliber offering; it also has had a trigger and crown upgrade.  More striking however, is the receiver which has plumbed perfectly over time, as if it were done on purpose.

For the scope, we found the most perfectly plumbed and bronzed Leupold 10x we have ever seen.  It also comes with a box.  We mounted the set with the original Ruger integral base/ring system for the most rock solid combination you will find.  This is truly a one of a kind work of art that has aged to perfection.  Whether it sits in a collection, goes to the range, or out for Varmints, this is a rifle that will not only look like a work of art, but likely will outperform any new rifle around it.
