Flat Out Beautiful
With gloss and blued steel scopes having seemingly vanished from the face of the earth, vintage guns, as well as some guns still in production are left without a proper optics match. That’s where VintageGunScopes comes in. We still like to enjoy, build and use the firearms that made history, and those that made memories for us. But putting a tactical looking, matte finish scope on a gloss black finely finished rifle is more than a travesty, it’s down right sacrilegious.
This week we decided to match up a classic Weatherby Mark V Lazermark with a scope, base and ring combination like it was made to be with. Beginning with a 35 year old, near pristine condition, 1984 Lazermark, we added a one piece Burris base and a complimentary set of Burris starburst rings to pull the optics and rich golden claro walnut together. For the optics we went with a mint condition Burris 6x18x with duplex reticle. It’s long tube compliments the long rich look of the rifle and helps the shooter with the ability to match the rifle’s performance capabilities.
The caliber of this fine piece is .270 Weatherby Magnum, which just happens to be the caliber I was dreaming of owning in 1984 as a long range deer hunter in the open country of Nebraska. That said, a 15 year old with a minimum wage summer job wasn’t about to afford the ammo, let alone the rifle; so a dream it remained. But in my dreams I would have owned this set up. Flat out flat. Flat out beautiful.
